Once I was wakling down the street near campus and I saw something in the grass. It was a matchbook. I picked it up and opened it. I expected to see what anyone would expect to see in it. Matches. Strangely, there were no matches in it. Instead there were the words "Never Knows Best" written in block letters across the inside. What does that mean? Am I missing part of the message? Does it mean to say "Paul Never Knows Best," or "Dave Never Knows Best?" Is this only part of a greater message that I will never find? Or is it all there is? And if that is the case, who is Never? Is Never even a person? Perhaps Never is a name for something that has no name. And the more important question, how does one find Never? What should I look for in order to find Never and ask it what I should do? Because whatever Never tells me, I will do it. After all, Never knows best.
